The Crackpot, by MaryLee Marilee
Life is easier than you think.
All you have to do is accept the impossible,
do without the indispensable --
and be able to smile at anything.

Welcome to the home page of "The Crackpot."

I like to think of this lifestyle/humor column as a "cheerleader for the human spirit" - a light shining through the cracks of this resurrected pot that helps to keep folks moving forward, instead of wandering alone in the dark. Heaven knows, even the best of us need a little encouragement to "keep on keepin' on."

In my own hare-brained way, I do my best to help folks find a smile while coping with the foul-balls life has a way of zinging at us.

"Thanks for 'letting your light shine.'"
--Jean Hughes

In production since 1993, The Crackpot column (published in the Holmes County Bargain Hunter) has developed quite a devoted following. Calls, letters and e-mails reaffirm that people in a wide range of ages and backgrounds relate to the boiled-down bites of life I serve up each week.

I like to catch my readers with a good hook, develop a simple concept, proffer a kernel of wisdom to munch, then wrap it all up with a droll twist that leaves folks with a smile - if not an outright chuckle - while addressing all manner of subjects that expose humanity's foibles. Heaven forbid the use of moralistic schmaltz! But a slightly "cracked" approach I employ without fail.

My track record proves that I can "grind-em-out" over the long haul (since starting the column in 1993, I haven't missed a deadline yet), and, as my ol' English professor used to say, "I still have a mountain of grist to run through this mill."

Peruse this sampling of past columns and see if you don't agree with Toni Morris, who says, "You always have something that 'rings a bell' in my life. Keep it up!"
